steamid.one Privacy Policy

We built steamid.one to be useful and transparent. This page explains exactly what data we collect and why.

TL;DR

  • We collect no personal data from visitors who are not signed in. No tracking cookies, no ads.
  • If you sign in with Steam, we store only your public SteamID64 and your chosen colour theme.
  • Steam profile data is fetched from Valve's public API in real time and temporarily cached. We do not store it permanently.
01

Who We Are

steamid.one is an independent web service that provides Steam ID lookup, conversion, comparison, and analytics tools. The service is not affiliated with Valve Corporation.

02

What We Collect

The data we collect depends on how you use the site:

No sign-in
No personal data collected. Anonymous page-view counts only via Vercel Analytics.
Sign-in
Your public SteamID64, returned by Steam OpenID after you authenticate on Steam's own page. Your Steam password is never seen or stored by us.
Theme pref
Your chosen colour theme (dark, light, cyberpunk, forest, or ocean), stored in our database linked to your SteamID64.
Steam data
Profile username, avatar, game list, playtime, and friends are fetched from Steam's public API on demand and temporarily cached. We do not store this data permanently.
03

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the service (lookups, conversions, comparisons, analytics dashboard).
  • To persist your colour theme preference across visits when you are signed in.
  • To understand aggregate site usage and improve the service (anonymous analytics only).
  • To protect the security and integrity of the service against abuse.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the service.

04

Data Storage

We use the following storage systems, each serving a specific purpose:

  • PostgreSQL (Neon) — stores your SteamID64 and theme preference. This is the only data stored long-term about you as an individual.
  • Redis (Upstash) — temporary cache for Steam API responses (profile data, game lists, etc.). Cache entries expire automatically on a rolling basis. Refreshing a profile via the site clears its cache entry immediately.
  • Session cookie — a server-side session stores your login state in an encrypted cookie for the duration of your visit. It is cleared on logout or expiry.
All data is stored on servers located within the European Union or the United States, subject to the respective providers' data processing agreements.
05

Cookies

We use exactly one cookie: a session cookie required to maintain your login state. It is:

  • HTTP-only and encrypted (not accessible from JavaScript).
  • Scoped to steamid.one only.
  • Deleted when you log out or when the session expires.

We do not use any advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies.

06

Third-Party Services

The following third-party services process data as part of operating steamid.one:

  • Valve / Steam Web API — all Steam profile data is fetched directly from Valve's public API. Subject to Valve's own privacy policy.
  • Vercel — hosts the site and provides anonymous, cookieless analytics. Vercel does not receive any personally identifiable information from us.
  • Upstash — serverless Redis hosting for Steam API response caching.
  • Neon — managed PostgreSQL hosting for user theme preferences.
07

Your Rights

You can request deletion of your account data (SteamID64 and theme preference) at any time by emailing us directly. We will action all deletion requests within 30 days.

Because we do not collect personal data beyond your public SteamID64, there is no personally identifiable information to export or correct.

08

Children's Privacy

steamid.one does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 years of age. If you believe a child has provided data to this service, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

09

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
